Heritage Research Bursary 2026

Roscommon County Council invites applications for the Heritage Research Bursary 2026.  The research topic or site should be located in or relevant to County Roscommon. The research project must be at MA, MSc or PhD level in a recognised third level college. There are two bursary awards up to a maximum of €1,000.00/award.

Closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 5pm on Friday 18th September 2026. Late applications will not be considered. 

The vision of Roscommon Heritage Strategy 2025-2029 is to conserve our past and inspire our future, protect and celebrate the built, natural, cultural and intangible heritage of County Roscommon. ‘Support Research’ is Strategic Objective 5 of the strategy. 

The Heritage Act, 1995 defines heritage as including monuments, archaeological objects, heritage objects, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, seascapes, wrecks, geology, inland waterways and heritage gardens and parks. The County Roscommon Heritage Forum also considers that folklore, industrial heritage and local history are important aspects of the county’s heritage.

Supported by Roscommon County Council Heritage Team as an action of Roscommon Heritage Strategy 2025-2029. Ceangal, the Local Authority Heritage Programme, is delivered in partnership between the Heritage Council and Local Government Ireland.
